Yesterday, Tuesday 26 October 2010, the Center for Democracy and Human Rights in Saudi Arabia (CDHR) played host to a gathering of organizations representing minority groups with populations in Arab and Muslim countries. The Copt, Hindu, Baha'i, Kurdish, Muslim and Jewish communities were among those represented. The conference's objective was to find ways to improve the basic human rights of all minorities as well as the rights of women.
Dr. Ali Alyami, the executive director of CDHR, brought the groups together to find common cause and unify the messages and efforts of the separate groups in order to more effectively bring political pressure on, and affect change within, Arab and Muslim governments.
Representatives from the Centre for Counterintelligence and Security Studies, Kurdish Human Rights Watch, Muslims for Progressive Values, the National American Coptic Assembly, the Voice of the Copts, the Religious Freedom Coalition, the Hindu American Foundation, National Assembly of the Baha’i and the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom participated.
